Former College Star staffer
makes career out of cartoons
Charles Barsotti has been making Americans laugh since the 1950s.
Barsotti, who graduated from Texas State in 1955, has had cartoons published in magazines from the Saturday Evening Post to Playboy. He has been a staff cartoonist at The New Yorker since 1970, and has had six collections published in books. (Copies are available at Amazon.com.)
The native of San Antonio — known as “Charley” during his days in campus — worked as a cartoonist at the College Star and also was a member of the Newman Club while at the university. He was named a distinguished alumnus in 1985 and was profiled in Texas Monthly magazine in 2000.
Samples of his cartoons are on his website, Barsotti.com. He currently lives in Kansas City, Mo.
