Texas State RRC hosts 5th annual
Round Rock Arts ‘Imagine’ event
Developing a city into an arts and culture hub takes vision — and a lot of effort. With plenty of both, the Round Rock Area Arts Council is transforming Round Rock into a nexus of support for the visual and performing arts. And Texas State University is helping by hosting the city’s marquis arts event this year.
Imagine 2013: An Evening of Art and Music will take place on Friday, February 22, 2013, from 7-9 p.m. at the Texas State University Round Rock Campus. A celebration of visual and performing art and music from Round Rock and surrounding areas, the evening will feature an expansive art exhibit (including works by more than 75 local artists), live music, theatre performances and a silent auction.
Round Rock Arts will announce more than $1,500 in artist prizes and $5,000 in grants to nonprofit performance groups during the event. Light refreshments, beer and wine will be served. Admission and parking will be free, but donations will be accepted.
A VIP reception will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. prior to the main event. Donors who have contributed at least $250 to Round Rock Arts will receive two tickets to the VIP reception as well as an opportunity to bid on or purchase silent auction items prior to the opening of the auction to the general public. Visit the Round Rock Arts donation page to make a donation by Friday, February 15, and receive tickets for the reception.
Confirmed performances include Magnificent 7, Round Rock Symphony Orchestra, the WILCO Symphony, Ballet Folklórico, Sam Bass Community Theatre and Penfold Theatre.
In 2008, Round Rock Arts chose the signature annual event name Imagine to symbolize how Round Rock could evolve into an arts and cultural center. During the past three years, Round Rock Arts and the city have developed an arts plan with the goal of increasing access to visual and performing art venues in the area. Over the next three to five years, the city government and other community groups will implement the plan.
The Imagine 2013 exhibit will be on display and open to the public at Texas State’s Round Rock Campus through Friday, May 17, 2013. The Round Rock Campus is located at 1555 University Blvd. in Round Rock.
