Sometimes, breaking it down to the basics can help support a great cause. On Wednesday, Oct. 26, Texas State’s Cancer Advocacy Movement for Colleges and Outreach (CAMCO) will bare student-decorated bras for breast cancer awareness at the Bra Night Fashion Show, as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

With participation from organizations and local businesses the Bra Night Fashion Show will shine the spotlight on cancer prevention and awareness.

A reception for participants and attendees will start at 6:15 p.m. in Alkek Teaching Theater, followed by the fashion show at 7 p.m. Attendees can browse information booths, learn about cancer prevention and enter to win door prizes, which will include two iPads. Attendees also can make donations to cancer charities and register for the Be the Match marrow program. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. Continue reading

Texas State Updates: Marrow Drive

Bone marrow drive yields
record number of registrants

Last week’s Texas State CAMCO “Be the Match” bone marrow donor drive registered 1,678 potential donors, exceeding last year’s record total of 1,512.

The Radiation Therapy Program team repeated its efforts from last year, winning the prize for the most registrations (388) and most minority registrations (205). (Radiation Therapy also raised the most money at last weekend’s Relay for Life at Bobcat Stadium.)

This year’s marrow donor drive succeeded in registering 949 members of minority groups, the most-needed segment of the marrow donor database. Eight Texas State students have donated lifesaving bone marrow to cancer patients since the program was established at the university.

This spring’s CAMCO events continue with the Boxer Night and Fashion Show, Wednesday at the Alkek Teaching Theater.
