Happenings: MR Fest 2011

KTSW festival features
music, market and more

By Britney Munguia

The fourth annual MR Fest, sponsored by Texas State’s KTSW-FM, will be this Friday and Saturday.

Thirty-one bands will be playing at seven  locations across the San Marcos Square, including Texas Music Theater, Texas Skate, Valentino’s, Tantra, The Coffee Pot, Root Cellar and Triple Crown.

Many of the venues will showcase a specific genre of music. Texas Skate will host a hardcore, metal and punk show, with bands like Newlywed, SAY SAY SAY and Losing Grip.

Texas Music Theater will host some of the larger acts, such as L.A.X., Zeale, Zlam Dunk and headliner, The Bright Light Social Hour.

A complete lineup with times and locations can be found here.

There will also be a MR Fest marketplace on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Local vendors will be stationed at the Hays County Courthouse and will be selling  merchandise and food items. The marketplace will feature performances by Boko, Texas State cheerleaders, Panorama Steel Drum Band and Frank Fogg the Magician.

Chimy’s, Go Local, Chili’s, Crazy Good Yogurt, Fuschak’s Pit BBQ, and BC and Merch are major sponsors this year.

There is no admission charge for any of the festival events. The MR Fest blog features updates, pictures, band reviews and user-submitted questions.
