10 Things Only Texas State Students Will Understand

By Brittnie Curtis

1. STAIRS/HILLS

You have to walk up a flight of stairs or some sort of hill to go just about anywhere on campus. At least those calves are getting a good workout, right?

2. CAMPUS WILDLIFE

While we do have an array of wildlife on campus (like this trio of ducks below), we all know the squirrels take the cake for being the most seen around campus. They’re everywhere!

3. HOMECOMING TRADITIONS

During Homecoming Week students take part in events like the Soap Box Derby, Homecoming Step Show and the Homecoming Football game.

4. GRADUATION TRADITIONS

Do you plan on jumping in the river after your graduation ceremony? Be sure to bring a towel if you do!

5. Sewell Park

Created in 1917, Sewell Park has grown to a six-acre park that has become a favorite hang-out for students.

6. #CLUBALKEK

How many times have you used #clubalkek in a tweet? We all know what that means: a night full of studying!

7. BOBCAT BUILD

Bobcat Build is the second-largest one-day community service event in the state!

 8. THE QUAD

Also known as the heart of campus. Just about every student has passed through the Quad to get to class at some point during their time at Texas State.

9. THE BEAUTY OF OUR CAMPUS

It might be a tough walk from one side of campus to the other one, but at least it’s a pretty one!

10. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, OUR BOBCAT PRIDE!

Bobcat pride runs deep here at Texas State. #EatEmUpCats!

  1. I was proud member of the 1965 SWT Bobcat Band
that led LBJ’s Inagural Parade in Washington, DC. What an honor and privledge it was! Also, graduating in August ’67, President Johnson gave our commencement address.

  2. No ICEBERG SIMPSON!!!????

  3. The guy in #4 is one of the coolest people I’ve ever met!

  4. They forgot the trains!

  5. The excitement, pride and celebration when our Bobcats won the NCAA Div. II National Championship in both ’81 and ’82 was the best. We “Wacker Backers” had such a great time “decorating” our campus… not leaving a single roll of toilet paper in our dorms.

  6. I shared this list and a friend had some very great items to add to the list. We graduated circa 2004. Here is her statement on the matter:

“I’m not so sure about this list. There’s nothing about talking freshmen into taking you for a meal swipe, buses and trains, grocery carts and the square, $2 Tuesdays and $1 Grin’s margaritas, both of which were conveniently within walking distance from the quad, kangaroos, five mile dam, or RR12. But I guess we were going to ‪#‎clubalkek‬ back when hash tags were pound signs, so what do I know?”
